Die menschliche Fackel war eigentlich ein Android, der vom Wissenschaftler Phineas Horton geschaffen wurde. Er besaß die Fähigkeit, sich mit Feuer zu umgeben und Flammen zu kontrollieren. Bei seinen ersten Auftritten wurde er als Science-Fiction-Monstrosität dargestellt, wurde aber schnell zum Helden und nahm eine geheime Identität als Polizist des New Yorker Polizeidepartements an und ist als Mitglied der Fantastischen Vier bekannt.
